Koeneman Park Waterfall

Waterfall construction is Brookside Contracting’s specialty. The company has built its reputation on high quality waterfalls in terms of artistry, function and good solid construction.

Brookside’s waterfalls look as if they are a natural part of the landscape. They are well-balanced, cascading in just the right places, jutting naturally from the hillside, and flowing easily into whatever body of water resides at their base. At the same time, Brookside’s waterfalls are very well constructed and withstand the test of time. This is why Brookside is often called upon to repair or replace waterfalls built by other companies that have collapsed or failed in one way or another over time.

This was the case with the waterfall in Koeneman Park in Jennings, Missouri. The Koeneman Park waterfall had failed and was falling into the lake. Brookside Contracting was tasked with replacing it.

Brookside removed the old waterfall entirely and built a new one. The completed waterfall is 250 linear feet with 50 feet of vertical elevation change. It is a spectacular sight. It starts at the Gazebo atop the Western most hillside of the park and cascades into Koeneman Park Lake.  It looks as if it formed naturally in the landscape.

This is due in large part to Brookside’s experienced crew. Brookside’s crew has an eye for the artistry of boulder placement, as well as an understanding of the functionality of it. Additionally, the crew has decades of shared experience.

For this particular waterfall Brookside used 36 mil LLDPE liner for the base. The pumping system was re-used as were most of the quarried limestone boulders. Brookside supplemented the rest of the boulders.  Additionally the two walk bridges that cross the waterfall were taken out and replaced. The new bridges were constructed entirely of maintenance free composite lumber and railing. Brookside also removed some old handball courts from the site and dredged Koeneman Park Lake.

The Koeneman Park project is a good example, not only of Brookside's watefall construction niche, but of the company's versatility regarding site improvement work in general.

Koeneman Park is a nice destination for residents of Jennings and the surrounding area. The park features a gazebo, which can be rented for small weddings or wedding photos, and now has a 250 ft. waterfall as a backdrop. The park also has a large pavilion, picnic areas, BBQ pits and new restrooms.

This is all in addition to the fishing, which is offered year round in the park (trout fishing in winter is limited to catch and release).  Koeneman Park Lake is stocked with Rainbow Trout, Large Mouth Bass, Channel Catfish, and other fresh water fish. Fishing guidelines for Koeneman Park Lake can be found here.

Brookside hopes you will enjoy the sights and sounds of the spectacular, steep waterfall when you visit Koeneman Park.

  • "I am an architect in the St. Louis area. Twice I have used Brookside and both experiences I would rate excellent or better. Pat and their crew’s creative input and ability to implement their ideas resulted in two of the most interesting and natural looking landscape projects I have seen."
